LG TRIPP Gallery – New Abstractions
First Friday was a miserably soggy evening but that didn’t dampen the spirits of hundreds of art lovers in Philadelphia. I was totally blown away by the numbers that filed through the LG TRIPP Gallery in waves that night. But for me the greatest joy was being pulled out of the crowd by Luella Tripp to speak to visitors who were fascinated by my work and wanted to know more about the unique process.
Gallery owner Luella Tripp had chosen works from seven photographers, all quite diverse. Many of the featured photographs were close ups of things we don’t normally pay any attention to: old book pages; automobile lights; some beautiful wall textures by Eric Porter; crumpled foil reflecting colors by Ken Cushmann; a section of a glacier by David Sacks; oil in water. Some amazing visions. What made this years exhibition one of the most challenging for Luella was having to undergo eye surgery prior to viewing many of the pieces in person. She only saw representations on the internet of many of the pieces prior to them being delivered to the gallery. To make matters worse, one of the exhibitors was taken sick and wasn’t able to supply as many pictures as originally agreed. Happily, I was able to jump in when asked if I had a big picture available. I was originally slated to show 3, but then Folded was added and to my great joy Luella hung it right opposite the gallery entrance! The show looks fabulous.
All in all the opening and Artist’s Reception were incredibly well attended and a lot fun. Here are a few some pictures. More can be seen on my Facebook page: www.facebook.com/ArtOfLightPix
