Some months back, following a suggestion from photographer Stephen Perloff, I paid a visit to the LG Tripp Gallery in Philadelphia with my cousin Cricket to show them some of my Photo Luminism images. It’s a really nice 2nd Street gallery with some very classy abstract work. We spent a long while chatting to the assistant, Tegan, who also happened to be showing an amazing piece made out of circles cut from maps. She seemed genuinely interested in what I was doing and assured me she’d pass my details on to her director.
It’s sad that after such a short time on the gallery road, I’m already becoming a bit jaded to that line; it feels a bit like a black hole. I’ve heard it so many times from galleries in London, NYC, Philly and LA.
Sure enough a month passed. I decided to take the bull by the horns and call to see if we’d made any progress. Astoundingly I got to speak to Luella Tripp herself, and although very busy, she assured me she would get to my folder soon. Another month passed. I traveled to England, visited more galleries and had a great meeting with top interior designers, Candy and Candy (more on this soon). Then on to LA to visit my 101 year old cousin. Sadly she passed away just before I got to see her. The very next day I got the phone call from Luella. She loves what she’s seen and wants me to participate in her 5th Annual Abstract Photography Exhibition, December through mid January. I was blown away. I pointed her to a special page with a ton more images.
“Your work is so stunning,” she said, “I love it!” The words were music to my ears. And better than any music I’ve ever heard before! But she wasn’t finished yet. “I also want to give you a solo show in the front of LG Tripp Gallery within 6 to 12 months.” I practically fell off the chair.
Thank you Luella, this is the big city break I’ve been waiting for. You will not be disappointed. I’m very honored to have been chosen.
