The Hyatt Regency Chicago Installation
This is my first major installation and the whole thing could not have gone more smoothly. All the people involved have been wonderful and the space is stunning.
There are two entrances to the Grand Ballroom, one by the elevators and valet car park, and one by the escalators. As you’ll see I have a picture in both. From the car park, there’s a long wide passageway that leads to the huge reception or ‘pre-function’ area. I have three pictures in that passageway, one of them 8ft x 4ft. Then I have three more in the ‘pre-function’ area, one of which is in the middle of what will be the main seating area. All the furniture you see in these pictures is due to be replaced.
Until now, Hyatt have not really embraced cutting edge art, so I’m really very honored to have my work chosen for this totally refurbished hotel. This particular Hyatt is the seventh largest non-gambling hotel in the world and now it’s like new. The design firm for my floor, Anderson|Miller, have done an extraordinary job of re-doing thousands of square feet of custom designed carpet and wall treatments, doors, ceilings, lighting and artwork. It is gorgeous. Beautiful color schemes, rich wood tones and lots of stainless steel. Just the right amount of ‘contemporary modern’ in a space as huge as this that has to cater to many tastes.
I couldn’t have wished for a better exhibition space. Not many people can say they’ve had a solo exhibition for several years in one place! So please, if you’re in the area, pay the Hyatt Regency Chicago Installation a visit. The Grand Ballroom is in the East Tower, down a floor or two and it’s always open.
Special thanks to Leslie, Laurie, Liz and Matt for making this all possible and to Patty at the Hyatt for showing me around, allowing me to take pictures and for the upcoming marketing. And thanks again to the crew at Image Wizards for making my work look so beautiful.
