Four Successful Professional Photographers
I’ve met many photographers over the years, so I’ve decided to highlight a few in a couple of blog posts. The first four successful professional photographers specialize in many different aspects of the industry. The one I’ve known the longest is fellow Brit, Ryker Lomas of RykerLocoPhoto. For years he’s traveled the globe on the high speed motor racing circuit covering Formula One and Indy events for trade magazines. The job required a fireproof suit regardless of temperature, full time ear protectors, it was obviously incredibly dangerous and must have been a nightmare for his chiropractor as motor racing is the sport that beats tennis hands down with regards to rapid head movements. Now he travels at a much slower pace capturing absolutely superb stock photos of wildlife, landscapes, architecture and life all over the world. It would be hard to meet a nicer chap.
Many years ago in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, it turned out my new next door neighbor was another English photographer – one of some repute – Paul Harris. Paul’s specialty was celebrities. His original company was one of the first to use a team of photographers all over the world capturing candid images of celebrities for internationally famous (and infamous) publications. Combine that with the cutting edge internet based technology he pioneered for distribution and before long his company attracted the enviable attentions of Getty Images. Paul now has a new company, Pacific Coast News doing much the same but adding breaking news, crime and human interest. What a great neighbor and a lovely family to boot.
A few months back on my trip to North Carolina, I met a duo of photographers, again from entirely different photographic worlds: Rob Lane, of LanesLight captures breathtaking vistas both underwater and on land that portray extraordinary depth, drama, and of course the pre-requisite light. Rob and his lovely wife Dirce have just moved to the UAE. I already have an invite to stay. How nice is that!
Larry Hersberger of Kissing Tree Studios, creates the most stunning children’s portraits you’ve ever seen, for which he also designs, builds and painstakingly paints incredibly lush, elaborate sets. They are nothing short of masterpieces. I also spent an hour with Larry as he worked the crowds in New York at one of the art fairs this year. I learnt a lot in a very short space of time!
The moral of this story is clearly that photographers are all jolly nice chaps!
